A new online e-Visa system

With effect from 19 March 2024 (B.E. 2567), the new online e-Visa system will be implemented to replace the current visa application procedures.

A foreign national in New Zealand wishing to apply for a Thai visa, must submit an application through the new online e-Visa system which original passport and supporting documents either in person or by courier to the Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington, are no longer required. All visa applications, received after 15 March 2024 will be returned to the applicants to re-apply through this new online e-Visa system.

The Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington will only accept applications from residents of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Niue via https://thaievisa.go.th/. Applicants will be required to create an application account, complete the visa application form, upload supporting documents and make payment for visa fee (non-refundable) via the website.

Non-Immigrant Visa O-A (Long Stay)
  

This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and over who wish to stay in Thailand for a period of no more than 1 year and with no intention of working. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

NOTE: Beginning 1 Octorber 2021 applicants for non-immigrant type "O-A" visas are required to have a health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD, including treatment of COVID-19. The health insurance must cover the entire duration of the applicant's stay in Thailand.  For more information on health insurance for non-immigrant type "O-A" visas, please visit https://longstay.tgia.org/.  

 

ELIGIBILITY:
1. The applicant must be 50 years of age and over (upon the day of application)

2. The applicant must not be an individual who is prohibited from entering the Kingdom as provided by the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)
3. The applicant must have no criminal record in Thailand or the country of the applicant’s nationality or residence
4. The applicant must hold the nationality (or must be a resident of) the country where the application is submitted 
5. The applicant must be free from the prohibited illnesses indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 B.E. 2535 (Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, third-stage Syphilis)
6. The applicant must have a health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD, including treatment of COVID-19. The health insurance must cover the entire duration of the applicant's stay in Thailand. The applicant may purchase a health insurance from one of the member companies of the Thai General Insurance Association at https://longstay.tgia.org/ or other insurance companies as desired as long as the terms of the insurance policy meets the requirements for a non-immigrant "O-A" visa.

VALIDITY OF VISA:
One year (multiple-entry)

PERIOD OF STAY:
Permit of stay will be granted by the Thai immigration checkpoint upon arrival

EXTENSION:
Extension of stay may be granted if the applicant meets the criteria 

FEE:
NZ$2,000 (non-refundable). 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

 3 Completed Visa Application Forms

Non-immigrant "O-A" Application Form

 Passport with a validity period of at least 18 months from the expected date of travel

 Three recent passport-sized photos

 Proof of residence in New Zealand

 Full curriculum vitae

 Proof of accommodation in Thailand for the entire duration of stay (e.g. hotel bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand together with copies of Thai national ID and/or passport of family/friends in Thailand)

 Health insurance certificate/policy with a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD or 3,000,000 Bath including treatment of COVID-19, for the entire duration of stay in Thailand

 Original copy of the applicant's bank statement (stamped and certified) for the past 2 months showing a balance of at least 800,000 Baht (or the equivalent) OR a certificate of income confirming a monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht

 Pension statement (if the applicant is a pension earner)

 Criminal record issued by relevant authorities of the country of the applicant's nationality or residence (issued no more than three months and notarized by notary organs or diplomatic/consular mission of the applicant’s nationality)

Medical certificate issued and certified by a doctor of the country where the application is submitted, confirming that the applicant is free from the prohibited illnesses indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 B.E. 2535 (issued no more than three months and notarized by notary organs or diplomatic/consular mission of the applicant’s nationality)

 Copy of air ticket to Thailand (the name of the applicant must be clearly indicated)

 In case the applicant wishes to bring along a spouse who is not qualified for a non-immigrant “O-A” visa, a marriage certificate (notarized by notary organs or diplomatic/consular mission of the applicant’s nationality) must be presented, in which case the spouse's application will be considered under the criteria for a non-immigrant “O” visa (temporary stay).

 

Note:
1. The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right to request other additional documents as deemed necessary for the review of the visa application.

2. Specified Passport Holders whose home country (or country of residence) is not New Zealand are advised to apply for a non-immigrant visa only at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home country (or country of residence).  If your present country of residence does not have a Thai Embassy, please contact the Thai Embassy that is accredited to your present country of residence.
