A new online e-Visa system
With effect from 19 March 2024 (B.E. 2567), the new online e-Visa system will be implemented to replace the current visa application procedures.
A foreign national in New Zealand wishing to apply for a Thai visa, must submit an application through the new online e-Visa system which original passport and supporting documents either in person or by courier to the Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington, are no longer required. All visa applications, received after 15 March 2024 will be returned to the applicants to re-apply through this new online e-Visa system.
The Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington will only accept applications from residents of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Niue via https://thaievisa.go.th/. Applicants will be required to create an application account, complete the visa application form, upload supporting documents and make payment for visa fee (non-refundable) via the website.

This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes:
- Non-immigrant O (Spouse/Family) - To stay with a family member who is residing in Thailand
- Non-immigrant O (Volunteer) - To do volunteer work with state enterprises or social welfare organizations in Thailand
- Non-immigrant O (Retirement) - Retirement / pension earners
VALIDITY OF A VISA:
- Single entry: 3 months (you must enter Thailand within the validity of visa from the date of issue)
- Multiple entry: 1 year (you must enter Thailand on your final visit before expiry of the visa from the date of issue)
VALIDITY OF A STAY:
The holders of this type of visa are initially granted a period of stay in the Kingdom not exceeding 90 days unless otherwise instructed by the Office of Immigration Bureau.
EXTENSION OF STAY:
The holder of a non-immigrant visa may apply for an extension of stay at the Office of the Immigration Bureau and may be granted such extension for a period of one year from the date of first entry into Thailand. The extension of stay is granted at the discretion of the Immigration officer. (For more details please visit http://www.immigration.go.th)
FEE:
NZ$800 with single entry (or NZ$2,000 with multiple entries for Non-immigrant "O" Spouse/Family only).
Note:
1. The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the rights to request additional documents or to reject any application that is incomplete.
2. Specified Passport Holders whose home country (or country of residence) is not New Zealand are advised to apply for a non-immigrant visa only at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home country (or country of residence). If your present country of residence does not have a Thai Embassy, please contact the Thai Embassy that is accredited to your present country of residence.
Family members (spouse, father, mother or child) of a person residing in Thailand
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas
Details of family member in Thailand, such as passport, Thai visa or stay permit. If the applicant's family member is a Thai citizen, please provide a copy of a Thai ID card.
Proof of relationship to a family member in Thailand (copy of marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.) All documents must be signed by the applicant or family member in Thailand.
* If the marriage or birth certificate is not issued by Thai authorities, the certificate must be authenticated (legalized) by relevant authorities (embassy) of the issuing country. If the certificate is issued by New Zealand authorities, it must be authenticated by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
Copy of air ticket or confirmed travel itinerary with the applicant's name clearly indicated
Proof of accommodation in Thailand (hotel booking, invitation letters from family in Thailand, etc.)
Copy of the applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement. If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.
If the applicant formerly held a Thai citizenship, proof of Thai citizenship such as a Thai passport or Thai identification card is required
For applicants who are non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)
For minors under 20 years of age, please have the following documents notarized and submitted with the application:
– Copy of birth certificate
– Copy of marriage certificate (In case the minor is under sole custody, a notarized copy of the court order must be provided)
– Copy of the passport or ID of the mother / father/ legal guardian
– Original letter signed by the mother / father / legal guardian giving consent for the minor to travel abroad
Volunteers
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas
Original letter of invitation or acceptance from a non-profit organization registered with the Thai government, signed by an authorized staff
Certified true copy of the Thai ID card of the authorized staff (in case the staff is a Thai national)
Certified true copy of a passport and valid work permit of the authorized staff (in case the authorized staff is a non-Thai national)
Copy of Registration Certificate or Permit to Operate in Thailand of the organization
Copy of employment contract / agreement (if any)
Copy of air ticket or confirmed travel itinerary with the name of the applicant clearly indicated
Copy of the applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement. If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.

Retirement / Pension Earners

Copy of air ticket or confirmed travel itinerary with the name of the applicant clearly indicated
Copy of the applicant's bank statement for the past 2 months showing a balance of at least 800,000 Baht (or the equivalent) OR a certificate of income confirming a monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht
Proof of accomodation in Thailand
Health insurance policy with minimum coverage of 40,000 THB/year for outpatients and 400,000 THB/year for inpatients, and covering the entire duration of the applicant's stay in Thailand.
