Announcement

A new online e-Visa system

With effect from 19 March 2024 (B.E. 2567), the new online e-Visa system will be implemented to replace the current visa application procedures.

A foreign national in New Zealand wishing to apply for a Thai visa, must submit an application through the new online e-Visa system which original passport and supporting documents either in person or by courier to the Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington, are no longer required. All visa applications, received after 15 March 2024 will be returned to the applicants to re-apply through this new online e-Visa system.

The Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington will only accept applications from residents of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Niue via

https://thaievisa.go.th/. Applicants will be required to create an application account, complete the visa application form, upload supporting documents and make payment for visa fee (non-refundable) via the website.

Non-immigrant ED visas may be granted to applicants who wish to pursue full-time education, internship or other educational programmes in Thailand.

 

VALIDITY OF A VISA :
 - Single entry: 3 months (you must enter Thailand within the validity of visa from the date of issue)

 - Multiple entry: 6 months (you must enter Thailand on your final visit before expiry of the visa from the date of issue)

VALIDITY OF STAY :
Holders of this type of visa will initially be granted a period of stay not exceeding 90 days unless otherwise instructed by the Immigration Bureau

EXTENSION OF STAY :
Up to one year from the date of first entry into Thailand (upon the discretion of the Immigration Bureau)

FEE:
NZ$ 800 per entry. 



1. Full-time Education

    1.1 Required Documents:

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Original copy of letter of acceptance from the accredited schools, universities or institutions in Thailand (signed and stamped by an authorized personnel on the educational institution's letterhead)

 Copy of the educational institution's license or business registration

 Original letter from the applicant’s present educational institution in New Zealand (if the applicant is presently studying in New Zealand), indicating the details of applicant's curriculum and educational level in New Zealand

Copy of applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months showing a minimum balance that covers the entire period of study in Thailand, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement.  If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.  

 For minors under 20 years of age:
    – Notarized copy of minor's birth certificate
    – Notarized copy of parents' marriage certificate (in case the minor is under sole custody of a single parent, please provide a notarized copy of the court order)
    – Notarized copy of parents' passports or ID
    – Notarized letter of consent for the minor to travel abroad, signed by the parents or legal guardians of the minor

 For non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

    1.2 Additional Documents for Private Schools/Institutions under University Level:

 Copy of professional license or the equivalent of school manager (signed and certified by school principal)

 Letter of approval from government agencies (Office of the Private Education Commission / Office of the Basic Education Commission) for the acceptance of a foreign student

    1.3 Additional Documents for Universities:

 Police certificate (or letter issued by authorized agencies in New Zealand) confirming that applicant has no criminal record or the equivalent

 Academic certificate

 Reference letter from the current educational institute in New Zealand (if applicable) 

 

2. Internships (including workshops and seminars organized by international organizations)

    Required Documents:

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Invitation letter from the company or international organization in Thailand confirming details of the internship program  

 For curricular internships:
    - Reference letter from the applicant's present educational institution in New Zeland confirming the applicant's tentative participation in the curricular internship in Thailand
    - Academic certificate from previous educational level

 For workshops: Reference letter from the sending agency/organization in New Zealand confirimg the applicant's participation in the workshop training in Thailand  

Copy of applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months showing a minimum balance that covers the entire period of study in Thailand, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement.  If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.  

 For non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

 

3. Buddhist Studies (Monks) and Ritual Activities

    Required Documents:

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Original pproval letter from the National Office of Buddhism of Thailand 

 Original confirmation letter from the host temple in Thailand  

 Academic certificate from previous educational level

 Copy of applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months showing a minimum balance that covers the entire period of study in Thailand, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement.  If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.  

 For non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

 

Note:

1. The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.

2. Specified Passport Holders whose home country (or country of residence) is not New Zealand are advised to apply for a non-immigrant visa only at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home country (or country of residence).  If your present country of residence does not have a Thai Embassy, please contact the Thai Embassy that is accredited to your present country of residence.
