Announcement

A new online e-Visa system

With effect from 19 March 2024 (B.E. 2567), the new online e-Visa system will be implemented to replace the current visa application procedures.

A foreign national in New Zealand wishing to apply for a Thai visa, must submit an application through the new online e-Visa system which original passport and supporting documents either in person or by courier to the Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington, are no longer required.

All visa applications, received after 15 March 2024 will be returned to the applicants to re-apply through this new online e-Visa system. The Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington will only accept applications from residents of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Niue via https://thaievisa.go.th/ Applicants will be required to create an application account, complete the visa application form, upload supporting documents and make payment for visa fee (non-refundable) via the website.

This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom to work or to conduct business.  This includes business visits and seminars.  If you are entering the Kingdom to work as a teacher, please refer to 3.

VALIDITY OF A VISA:
 - Single entry: 3 months (you must enter Thailand within the validity of visa from the date of issue)

 - Multiple entry: 6 months (you must enter Thailand on your final visit before expiry of the visa from the date of issue)

VALIDITY OF A STAY:
The holders of this type of visa are initially granted a period of stay in the Kingdom not exceeding 90 days unless otherwise instructed by the Office of Immigration Bureau.

EXTENSION OF STAY:
The holder of a non-immigrant visa may apply for an extension of stay at the Office of the Immigration Bureau and may be granted such extension for a period of one year from the date of first entry into Thailand. The extension of stay is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer. (For more details please visit http://www.immigration.go.th)

1. Non-Immigrant Visa "B" (To Work)

Required Documents for Visa Application

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Official letter from the employing company in Thailand with details of job position/qualifications, salary and employment duration (signed and stamped by an authorized managing director of the company on the company's letterhead)

 A copy of the applicant's employment contract

 Evidence of educational qualification and work experience

 Original letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Labour. To obtain this letter, the applicant’s prospective employer in Thailand is required to submit a WP3 Form to the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour or at the Provincial Employment Office in the employing company's respective province.  More information is available at www.doe.go.th/workpermit/index.html

 A copy of the applicant's work permit (if the applicant has previously worked in the Kingdom and is returning to continue his/her work) 

 A copy of the employing company's corporate documents; namely
    1) List of shareholders
    2) Business registration and license
    3) Company profile
    4) Details of business operation
    5) List of foreign workers (including names, nationalities and positions)
    6) Statement of income tax and business tax (Por Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30) of the latest year
    7) Alien income tax return (Por Ngor Dor 91)
    8) Value-added tax registration (Por Ngor Dor 20)

 A copy of the applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement.  If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.

 For non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

 

Note:

1. The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.
2. The employing company's documents must be signed by the and authorized managing director and affixed with the company's seal.
3. An alien who receives a non-immigrant visa can work in Thailand upon being granted a work permit. An alien who violates the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979) on taking up employment without a work permit or the Royal Decree B.E. 2522 (1979) on employment in restricted occupations and professions shall be prosecuted and imprisoned or fined, or shall face both penalties.

2. Non-Immigrant Visa "B" (To Conduct Business in Thailand)

This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom to conduct business, or to attend a business conference or seminar. 

Required Documents for Visa Application

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Letter from the applicant’s employer (the sending company) indicating the applicant’s position, length of employment, purpose(s) of visit to Thailand and name of the corporate or agencies that the applican will be meeting with.

 For non-New Zealand citizens, proof of residence in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

 Copy of return air ticket or confirmed travel itinerary.

 Evidence of financial status in the case where the applicant is self-employed.

 Invitation letter from trading or associated partners/companies in Thailand, signed by an authorized person, together with a copy of ID card or passport of the signer. 

 Copy of the employing company's corporate documents; namely
    1) List of shareholders
    2) Business registration and license
    3) Company profile
    4) Details of business operation
    5) List of foreign workers (including names, nationalities and positions)
    6) Statement of income tax and business tax (Por Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30) of the latest year
    7) Alien income tax return (Por Ngor Dor 91)
    8) Value-added tax registration (Por Ngor Dor 20)

 Copy of bank statement (signed and stamped by the issuing branch) with a balance of at least 26,000 NZD (500,000 THB) for the past 6 months

 * For business trips: The sum of total payment for the inviting company's registered capital must be at least 2,000,000 THB

 * For investors: Proof of ownership of a condominium, proof of Thai bank balance or proof of purchase of a Thai government bond at an amount no less than 3,000,000 THB

3. Non-Immigrant Visa "B" (To Teach in Thailand)

This type of visa is issued to applicants who intend to take up employment as school teachers under university level in Thailand. Visa regulation of Thailand concerning the visa applicant who wishes to apply for an appropriate visa to work as an English teacher in Thailand both on employment basis and voluntary basis is as follows;

Required Documents for Visa Application

Standard required documents for all types of non-immigrant visas

 Letter of acceptance from employing school/ university in Thailand, sugned by authorized person together with a copy of ID card or passport of the signer.  

 For a Non-New Zealand citizen, a proof of Residence Document in New Zealand is required (e.g. resident visa, work visa, etc.)

 A copy of the applicant's recent bank statement during the past 6 months, with the name of the applicant clearly written on the statement.  If submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship to the bank account holder (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.

 Information of the employment terms

Original letter of approval from government agencies such as the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Office of the Basic Education Commission, etc.

Notarised certificate of educational qualification such as diplomas or teaching certificates.

 School/ University's license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile.

 Applicant’s resume.       

 Police certificate (or letter issued by authorised agencies in New Zealand) confirming that applicant has no criminal record or the equivalent


Note:

1. Royal Thai Embassy reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.
2. If the applicant has appropriate qualification, the Embassy will issue a non-immigrant visa, type “B”, single entry with three months validity to the applicant. With this type of visa, the applicant will be permitted to stay in Thailand not more than 90 days. Once the applicant arrives in Thailand, the education institution will apply a teacher license at the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of University Affairs and also apply for work permit at the Ministry of Labour for the applicant. After granted teacher license and work permit, the applicant is required to submit teacher license, work permit, employment contract and employment certificate to the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok in order to apply for visa extension to cover the term of employment.


Teaching on a voluntary basis (no salary)

Applicants who are teaching as volunteers must apply for a category "O" non-immigrant visa (volunteer visa). 

Note:

1. If the applicant has appropriate qualification, the Embassy will issue a non-immigrant visa, type “O”, single entry with three-month validity to the applicant within two working days.
2. With this type of visa, the applicant will be permitted to stay in Thailand not more than 90 days. In case the applicant wishes to extend the duration of stay in Thailand, the applicant is required to apply with the Immigration Bureau in Thailand by enclosing an official introduction letter of the Organization in Thailand.
3. Please be informed that a foreigner who is holding a Thai tourist visa is not permitted to work as an English teacher in Thailand, even on a voluntary basis.
