A new online e-Visa system
With effect from 19 March 2024 (B.E. 2567), the new online e-Visa system will be implemented to replace the current visa application procedures.
A foreign national in New Zealand wishing to apply for a Thai visa, must submit an application through the new online e-Visa system which original passport and supporting documents either in person or by courier to the Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington, are no longer required. All visa applications, received after 15 March 2024 will be returned to the applicants to re-apply through this new online e-Visa system.
The Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington will only accept applications from residents of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Niue via https://thaievisa.go.th/. Applicants will be required to create an application account, complete the visa application form, upload supporting documents and make payment for visa fee (non-refundable) via the website.

Transit Visas are issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes:
- Travellers transiting through the Kingdom in order to proceed to the final country of destination - Category “TS”.
- Athletes participating in sporting events - Category “S”.
- Persons in charge, or crew members, of a conveyance coming to a port, station or area in the Kingdom - Category “C”.
* Travellers transiting at the airport for less than 12 hours DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA.
VALIDITY OF VISA:
Visas must be used within 3 months from date of issue.
PERIOD OF STAY:
Permit of stay will be granted at the immigration checkpoint at the sole discretion of the immigration officer .
FEE:
NZ$200 per entry (subject to change without notice).
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months from expected date of travel.
One recent passport-sized photograph, taken within 6 months (Note: 3 photographs for nationals listed under "Specified Passport Holders")
Photocopy of New Zealand Visa, if you are NOT a New Zealand citizen. (Proof of residence in New Zealand i.e. Permanent Resident Visa, Work Visa or student visa) for nationals listed under specified passport holders and upon request.
Valid Air Ticket or confirmed itinerary. Travelling by certain low cost airline may require additional funding. (additional NZ$ 2,000 per person)
Proof of accommodation in Thailand when transiting more than 24 hours e.g. Hotel Bookings, Invitation letters from family/ friends in Thailand, togetther with copies of Thai National ID and/ or passport (of family / friends), certified true copies and signed.
Photocopy of recent bank statement, signed, stamped and dated by the Bank (credit cards and home loan accounts not accepted) providing evidence of sufficient funds during stay in Thailand (at least NZ$ 1,000 per entry per person)
Valid letter of reference in New Zealand, issued within 3 months, is required for nationals listed under nationals listed under "Specified Passport Holders" (name, position, and contact details of the employee must be clearly indicated)
Additional Required Documents
Athletes participating in a sporting events (Transit "S" Visa): Please provide certificates from concerned authorities supporting/sponsoring the applicant, together with a letter from the applicant's agency and an invitation letter from the event organizer, with the visa application
Crew members (Transit "C" Visa): please provide your employment certificate(s) together with your application
Nationals listed under "Specified Passport Holders": please supply 3 copies of visa application form and 3 passport-sized photos for a visa to travel to Thailand, together with three copies of proof of residence in New Zealand (e.g. Permanent Resident Visa, etc.)
- If either holding a New Zealande resident, student or work visa, please submit a letter of recommendation from your educational institution or employer with the application.
- If not holding a New Zealand resident, student or work visa, your application will be processed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand and the processing time could take up to 2 months.
Minors under 20 years of age: please provide the following documents
- Notarized copy of birth certificate,
- Notarized copy of parents' marriage certificate (if the minor is under sole custody, a notarized copy of the court order must be provided)
- Notarized copy of original passports or national ID Card of the minor's parents / legal guardian.
- Notarized or orginal letter of consent for the minor to travel abroad from the minor's parents / legal guardian.
Note: The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right to request for additional documents or information as deemed necessary.
