เมื่อวันที่ ๑๕ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๖๘ นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้เดินทางเยือนสถาบันการศึกษา Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology ณ เมืองเนลสัน เพื่อพบหารือกับคณะผู้บริหารและอาจารย์ของสถาบันฯ เพื่อแสวงหาและส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการศึกษาและวัฒนธรรมไทย - นิวซีแลนด์ ร่วมกันในอนาคต ซึ่งโอกาสนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้พบปะกับนักศึกษาไทยและเยี่ยมชมการเรียนการสอนของสถาบันดังกล่าว

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) เป็นสถาบันการศึกษาระดับอุดมศึกษาของรัฐบาลในนิวซีแลนด์ ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๔๘ (ค.ศ. ๑๙๐๕) โดยมีวิทยาเขตหลักตั้งอยู่ที่เมืองเนลสัน ทางเกาะใต้ของนิวซีแลนด์ เปิดสอนในระดับประกาศนียบัตร อนุปริญญา ปริญญาตรี และปริญญาโท ครอบคลุมหลากหลายสาขา เช่น วิทยาศาสตร์ทางทะเล พยาบาล ธุรกิจ เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศ การท่องเที่ยว ศิลปะและการออกแบบ รวมทั้งสาขาวิชาอื่น ๆ ซึ่งได้รับการจัดอันดับสถานศึกษาระดับ ๑ คือได้รับการรับรองคุณภาพการศึกษาระดับสูงสุดจากสำนักงานรับรองคุณวุฒิการศึกษาของนิวซีแลนด์ โดยปัจจุบันสถาบันมีนักศึกษาไทยศึกษาอยู่จำนวน ๕ คน ประกอบด้วย ๑.) สาขาพยาบาล ๑ คน ๒.) สาขาเทคโนโลยีดิจิทัล ๒ คน  ๓.) หลักสูตรเตรียมความพร้อมทักษะด้านภาษาอังกฤษ ๑ คน และ ๔.) สาขาการจัดการประยุกต์ด้านธุรกิจ ๑ คน

On 15 May 2025, Ambassador Waravuth Pouapinya visited Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) in Nelson and met with the institute’s management team to discuss future cooperation on educational exchange programs and cultural activities. The Ambassador also met with Thai students and toured the school facilities to explore opportunities for future educational and cultural collaboration, aiming to strengthen Thai–New Zealand educational cooperation.

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is a government tertiary education institution in New Zealand, established in 1905. The Main campus is located in Nelson, in the South Island of New Zealand. NMIT offers certificate, diploma, bachelor’s, and Master’s degree programs across a wide range of fields such as marine science, nursing, business, information technology, tourism, arts and design, as well as other disciplines.

NMIT has been rated as a Category 1 education provider, which means it has received the highest quality education accreditation from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Currently, there are five Thai students studying at NMIT, including one student in Nursing, two students in Digital Technology, one student in the Foundation Course, and one student in Applied Management.
