เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ เมษายน ๒๕๖๘ เวลา ๐๙.๐๐ - ๑๑.๐๐ น. นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้นำข้าราชการ เจ้าหน้าที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ และชุมชนไทย ร่วมพิธีทำบุญตักบาตรเพื่อเสริมความเป็นสิริมงคล เนื่องในเทศกาลสงกรานต์ของไทย ประจำปี ๒๕๖๘ ณ ที่ทำการสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ โดยกิจกรรมประกอบด้วย พระสงฆ์เจริญพระพุทธมนต์ การถวายเครื่องไทยธรรม การทำบุญตักบาตรและถวายภัตตาหารเพลแด่พระภิกษุสงฆ์จากวัดต่าง ๆ ในกรุงเวลลิงตัน ๗ รูป
จากนั้น เวลา ๑๑.๐๐ - ๑๕.๐๐ น. สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ร่วมกับชุมชนไทย จัดงานเฉลิมฉลองประเพณีสงกรานต์ปีใหม่ไทย โดยมีกิจกรรมการสรงน้ำพระพุทธรูป สรงน้ำพระสงฆ์ และการรดน้ำดำหัวผู้ใหญ่ ซึ่งถือเป็นการร่วมสืบสานวัฒนธรรมอันทรงคุณค่าของไทยที่มีมาแต่โบราณให้คงอยู่ต่อไป เพื่อให้ชาวนิวซีแลนด์และชาวต่างชาติในนิวซีแลนด์ได้เข้าใจถึงประเพณีอันดีงามที่สืบทอดมายาวนานของไทย นอกจากนี้ ภายในงานมีกิจกรรมการแสดงศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทย การแสดงรำไทย การสาธิตศิลปะการต่อสู้แม่ไม้มวยไทย แกะสลักผลไม้ การละเล่นพื้นบ้านไทย นวดแผนไทย ตลอดจนการออกร้านจำหน่ายอาหารและสินค้าไทย รวมทั้งมีการประมูลภาพวาด และขายสลากการกุศลเพื่อช่วยเหลือผู้ประสบภัยจากแผ่นดินไหวในเมียนมาและประเทศไทยด้วย โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมงาน ทั้งจากคณะทูตานุทูต หน่วยงานราชการ หน่วยงานต่าง ๆ และประชาชนทั่วไปกว่า ๘๐๐ คน
เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้กล่าวเปิดงานเฉลิมฉลองประเพณีสงกรานต์ ประจำปี ๒๕๖๘ โดยมีนาย Alfredo Rogerio Pérez Bravo เอกอัครราชทูตเม็กซิโกประจำนิวซีแลนด์ หัวหน้าคณะทูตประจำนิวซีแลนด์ พร้อมคู่สมรส และนาย Jose Emilio Bustinza Soto เอกอัครราชทูตเปรูประจำนิวซีแลนด์ เป็นแขกเกียรติยศเข้าร่วมพิธีเปิดงานในครั้งนี้ “สงกรานต์ในประเทศไทย และประเพณีปีใหม่ไทย” ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนในบัญชีรายชื่อตัวแทนมรดกวัฒนธรรมที่จับต้องไม่ได้แห่งมวลมนุษยชาติ (Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) ขององค์การยูเนสโก เมื่อปี ๒๕๖๖
สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ขอขอบคุณสมาคมคนไทยในกรุงเวลลิงตัน สมาคมนักเรียนไทยในกรุงเวลลิงตัน และชุมชนไทยในนิวซีแลนด์ที่ได้ร่วมแรงร่วมใจช่วยจัดงานสงกรานต์ประจำปีนี้จนประสบความสำเร็จอย่างดียิ่ง สร้างความตระหนักรู้เกี่ยวกับประเพณีสำคัญของไทยให้เป็นที่ประจักษ์แก่ชาวนิวซีแลนด์และชาวต่างชาติที่เข้ามาร่วมงาน
On 11 April 2025, from 09.00 - 11.00 hours, Ambassador Waravuth Pouapinya led Embassy staff and the Thai community in making merit and offering alms to monks on the auspicious occasion of “Songkran,” the Thai New Year at the Embassy premises.
From 11.00 - 15.00 hours, the Embassy and the Thai community organized Songkran Festival celebrations, including the traditional sprinkling of water on the Buddha statue, monks, and elders to show respect and foreigners to one another. Activities throughout the day included Thai cultural performances, a Muay Thai demonstration, fruit carving, traditional Thai games, Thai traditional massage, as well as Thai products and food stalls. There were also art auctions and charity raffle ticket sales to support earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar and Thailand. Approximately 800 guests attended the event.
During the opening ceremony, the Ambassador presided over the launch of the Songkran Festival 2025, joined by H.E. Mr. Alfredo Rogerio Pérez Bravo, Ambassador of Mexico to New Zealand and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, along with his spouse, and H.E. Mr. Jose Emilio Bustinza Soto, Ambassador of Peru to New Zealand, as guests of honor. The event aimed to promote the Songkran Festival, which was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2023.
The Royal Thai Embassy would like to take this opportunity to thank the Wellington’s Thai Community Association, the Thai Students' Association of Wellington, and the Thai community for their tireless efforts in organizing the Songkran Festival, which helps raise awareness of this important tradition to New Zealanders and foreigners attending the event.
