เมื่อวันที่ ๑ มีนาคม ๒๕๖๙ นายมงคล วิศิษฏ์สตัมภ์ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน และภริยา พร้อมด้วยข้าราชการและเจ้าหน้าที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ตลอดจนพุทธศาสนิกชนในนิวซีแลนด์ ได้ร่วมประกอบศาสนพิธี รับฟังพระธรรมเทศนา ทำบุญตักบาตร ถวายภัตตาหารเพลแด่พระภิกษุสงฆ์ เวียนเทียน และร่วมพิธีถวายผ้าป่า เนื่องในวันมาฆบูชา ณ วัดธรรมประทีป กรุงเวลลิงตัน นิวซีแลนด์ โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมกว่า ๑๐๐ คน

วันมาฆบูชา ซึ่งในปี ๒๕๖๙ ตรงกับวันอังคารที่ ๓ มีนาคม เป็นวันสำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนา ตรงกับวันเพ็ญขึ้น ๑๕ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ มีเหตุอัศจรรย์ ๔ ประการ หรือที่เรียกว่า "จาตุรงคสันนิบาต" ได้แก่ ๑) พระสงฆ์สาวก ๑,๒๕๐ รูป มาเฝ้าพระพุทธเจ้าโดยมิได้นัดหมาย ๒) พระสงฆ์ทั้งหมดเป็นพระอรหันต์ ๓) พระสงฆ์ทั้งหมดได้รับการบวชจากพระพุทธเจ้า (เอหิภิกขุอุปสัมปทา) และ ๔) เป็นวันพระจันทร์เต็มดวงเสวยมาฆฤกษ์ ในวันนี้พระพุทธเจ้าได้ทรงแสดงโอวาทปาติโมกข์ ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของพระพุทธศาสนา ประกอบด้วย ๑) ละเว้นบาปทั้งปวง ๒) ทำความดีให้ถึงพร้อม และ ๓) ทำจิตใจให้บริสุทธิ์

สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ขอร่วมอนุโมทนาบุญกับพุทธศาสนิกชนทุกท่าน และขออำนาจแห่งผลบุญกุศลครั้งนี้ ดลบันดาลให้ชุมชนไทยในนิวซีแลนด์และครอบครัวประสบแต่ความสุข ความเจริญ สุขภาพแข็งแรง และสมปรารถนาในสิ่งอันเป็นกุศลทั้งปวง

On 1 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador-designate, and his spouse, along with Royal Thai Embassy officials and staff and the Thai community in New Zealand, participated in the religious ceremonies held on the occasion of Makha Bucha Day at Wat Dhammaprateep in Wellington, New Zealand. The activities included monks chanting and preaching sermons, the offering of alms, merit-making by presenting food to the monks, candlelight procession around the temple grounds, as well as robe-offering ceremony.

Makha Bucha Day this year is observed on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month. Also known as Chaturanga Sannipata or the Fourfold Assembly Day, it commemorates four key events:1) 1,250 monks gathered without prior arrangement, 2) all were arahants (enlightened disciples), 3) all were ordained by the Lord Buddha, and 4) it was the full moon of the third lunar month (the moon arrived to the star called Makha). On this day, the Lord Buddha preached the dharma principle of Ovada Patimokkha, which encapsulates Buddhism’s core principles: 1) refrain from evil, 2) do good, and 3) purify the mind.

The Royal Thai Embassy joins Buddhists in rejoicing on this auspicious occasion and wishes that the merits gained may bestow happiness, prosperity, good health, and the fulfilment of all virtuous aspirations upon the Thai community in New Zealand and their families.
