เมื่อวันที่ 29 มีนาคม 2558 นายมาริษ เสงี่ยมพงษ์ ทูตไทยประจำนิวซีแลนด์ เดินทางไปเมืองเฮสติ้งส์เพื่อพบปะตรวจเยี่ยมการจ้างแรงงานไทยภาคเกษตร พร้อมหารือถึงความเป็นไปได้ในการเจรจากับผู้ประกอบการและทางการนิวซีแลนด์ให้แรงงานไทยที่มีศักยภาพสูงได้ทำงานในนิวซีแลนด์เป็นระยะเวลานานขึ้นในแต่ละปี เพื่อเป็นประโยชน์แก่เกษตรกรไทยในนิวซีแลนด์และธุรกิจการเกษตรนิวซีแลนด์   และยังได้สนับสนุนให้แรงงานไทยนำองค์ความรู้และเทคโนโลยีที่ได้จากการทำงานกลับสู่บ้านเกิดเพื่อปรับใช้และเสริมสร้างการเกษตรของไทยให้แข็งแกร่งยิ่งขึ้น  

ในโอกาสนี้ ทูตไทยได้เข้าร่วมพิธีสอบนักธรรมที่จัดขึ้นโดยสำนักงานแม่กองสนามหลวง รวมทั้งกิจกรรมของชุมชนไทย ณ วัดปทุมรังษีวัฒนาราม โดยได้รับการตอนรับที่อบอุ่นและมีโอกาสแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นกับคนไทยอย่างใกล้ชิดอีกด้วย

On 29 March 2015, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Ambassador of Thailand to New Zealand, visited Hastings to meet with Thai horticultural workers, and discussed with them the possibility of negotiating with New Zealand’s authorities and businessmen to extend the period for which skilled labourers from Thailand can work in New Zealand. Not only will this benefit the Thai workers and New Zealand’s agricultural industry, but it will also encourage Thai workers to bring back the expertise acquired from their experience working in New Zealand to strengthen Thailand’s agricultural sector.   

In this occasion, Ambassador Maris also sat a Dharma examination hosted by Central Dharma Testing Service Headquarters of Thailand, and participated in activities organised by the Thai expatriate community at Patumrangsi Wattanarama Monastery. The visit was warmly welcomed and it was an opportunity for the Thai expatriates to converse and exchange opinions with their ambassador.
