เมื่อวันที่ ๑๓ สิงหาคม ๒๕๖๗ นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้พบหารือกับนาย Wayne Brown นายกเทศมนตรีนครโอ๊คแลนด์ ณ สภาเมืองนครโอ๊คแลนด์ โดยหารือเกี่ยวกับแนวทางการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยกับนครโอ๊คแลนด์ ซึ่งเป็นศูนย์กลางของเศรษฐกิจ ธุรกิจ สังคม และนวัตกรรมของนิวซีแลนด์ และมีคนไทยอาศัยอยู่กว่า ๘,๐๐๐ คน
นายกเทศมนตรีได้แสดงความสนใจต่อแนวคิดที่จะจัดตั้งสถานกงสุญใหญ่ ณ นครโอ๊คแลนด์ ความร่วมมือบ้านพี่เมืองน้องระหว่างนครโอ๊คแลนด์กับกรุงเทพมหานคร ตลอดจนการสนับสนุนกิจกรรมที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ จะจัดขึ้น ณ นครโอ๊คแลนด์ ในอนาคต อาทิ กิจกรรมเทศกาลไทย
On 13 August 2024, Ambassador Waravuth Pouapinya made a courtesy call on His Worship Mr. Wayne Brown, Mayor of Auckland, at the Auckland City Council. Both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Thailand and Auckland, which is the economic, business, social, and innovative hub of New Zealand, as well as homes to over 8,000 Thais.
The Mayor expressed his support for the proposal to Thailand by the Royal Thai Embassy to open a Thai Consulate-General in Auckland and for the sister city cooperation between Auckland City Council and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. He also expressed his support for activities to be organized in Auckland by the Embassy in the future, including the Thai Festivals.
